WHY THE 5G NETWORK IS THE FUTURE FOR ALL THE NETWORKS

I got a lot of curious with seeing all those videos in my sub boxes for the past couple of months, of people getting taken to Chicago to test 5G and doing all those crazy speed test but then I started to notice they all sort of have a couple of things in common so it was just getting me curious about the whole things so, I bought a 5G phone and drove to the nearest 5G city and I tried it for myself.
I bought a new $1,600 Samsung Galaxy S10 5G on Verizon, so the crew and I drove from the studio to the nearest 5G city.

So for those unfamiliar let me give you a brief explanation of the 5G, you know we have 4G now, 5G is the fifth generation of wireless network Technology and all of the carries are working on building all the 5G networks right now.

The main theme of 5G is speed, every new generation of the wireless network are significantly faster and more capable than the previous, some of you might remember the old and very slow, 2G and 3G, now much better 4G is the noise.

Now 5G represents another step forward so to take advantage of 5G, you’ll need a 5G phone with a 5G radio and a 5G network, so for me I used the galaxy S10 and it’s Verizon Nod building up their network in certain cities, one location at a time, so you can’t just get a software update to a 4G to just enable 5G.

Because most networks are fond of changing people’s status bar to say 5G, when it’s really just 4G
It’s basically a lie, you’re kind of tricking people to thinking they’ve got 5G, so 5Ge is not 5G, it’s still 4G.

So the 5G network is build on something called millimetre waves, it’s a new section of very high frequency spectrum upwards of 20GHZ all the way to near 96 GHz but the catch is the higher the frequency of any wave the lesser the range that’s just the basic truth on paper.
So that’s for the sake reason why 5ghz Wi-Fi doesn’t travel as fast as the 2.4GHz, the same reason microwaves don’t cook things on the other side of the glass. That’s the sane reason 5G doesn’t travel that fast in the modern world.

So millimetre waves the highest problem is even If you’re standing pretty close to the note like a couple of 100 feels away it travels only within direct line of sight so think of things like trees or walls and building blocks and disrupt the high frequency signal even if you ate still close to it. I’ve heard that rain in the air can potentially disrupt the signal and be a problem.

So that’s why I wanted to test it for myself, so we drove to the nearest Wi-Fi terminal, although it’s not the whole city that’s one big 5G hot head, it’s only certain areas which were sort of tucked away and happens to be near brain university where we found one of them, and we found them by finding the 5G when I came close to it with my phone, the 4G and the notification bar switches to 5G and you open the app of your choice and run a speed test. And I saw an easy 700-800 often times 1,000 M3/3 download, the highest result I actually saw in my personal testing was 1.9GB/s briefly from fast.com

That’s hilariously fast like you can use your whole data cap in a minute. Now you might be wondering what this type of speed is actually good for, other than a speed test, YouTube videos played instantly without any buffering, and it was in HD mode, and I could fast forward right off the back, web browsing of course was super fast and hoping into play store to download a gigantic game of PUBG mobile and progress moved pretty fast not like blink of an eye and it’s done but still miles better than it would be on LET, Fortnight downloaded progressed faster than the fortnight installer would have meaning it’s crazy impressive and downloading an entire stranger things episode from NETFLIX in HD on my phone took about 4 seconds.

So you can grab a whole season and it would be like 30 seconds if you wanted to.
Which is again absolutely great idea, but here’s the thing this all happened when I was standing right next to the tower, in a direct line of site in a perfect ideal situation and weather, but once I left that, it kind of broke down pretty fast, so right around the corner of a brick building just to get into the shades, literally 75 feels away from the nodes so behind a wall and I’m getting much slower 5G, it’s still 5G but you can see the numbers here and it’s kind of crazy to call 200 -300 down slow. But compared to what I was getting before that’s a pretty big difference it basically Cut your speed In half just by walking around the blog and I also noticed just be walking half way down the block, I started bouncing back and forth between 4G and 5G and it was frustratingly inconsistent even when it did have a line of sight with maybe a tree or two soft of nearby, my phone would drop 5 and then back on again.

So what’s the solution for this? Well as we explained basically just putting a lot of nodes all over the place so essentially to maximize coverage and to improve technologies so that’s when you move behind one obstacle and the drive through a city you actively switch between nodes, that’s kind of like what we do with the 4G tower but just much faster and I think that’s the part that scares people. But that’s the current plan to blanket areas of these lower powered nodes everywhere.
