HOW CONTEMPORARY IS THE 2020 IPHONE SE NOW
The iPhone SE is one of the best phone apple did this year and honestly, its one of the most important planes for your apple in a very long time. So reviewing the phone should be easy because I’ve clearly reviewed the iPhone 8, but there are a couple of tweak in this phone, so here’s a refresher.
This iPhone SE has the body of an iPhone 8, a new camera system and a chip from the iPhone 11, the newest A13 bionics, so the body itself is so small, at least by today’s standard because today’s standards happen to be pretty big and include a lot of huge phones including apples own huge phone.
Although it doesn’t go all the way back to the first iPhone SEC which now looking back it’s absolutely tiny, but I like the size of the SE phone though and it’s less about overall footprint size and just more about how thin and light weight it is.
It was really noticeable like walking around with this as the only phone in my pocket, it’s honestly pretty refreshing with having a phone that’s so light and maneuverable. So the SE stands for special edition on unofficially but I’m going to go and adjust that to small edition.
The body is also IP65 water and dust resistant, it has the glass back to give you wireless charging and if you notice you’ll see that the logo has being moved down to the middle of the screen to match all the newer phones.
And the rest you can remember, like speakers at the bottom, paired with the earpiece and of course the big forehead and chin plus the touch ID, in a world of face mask and nose coverings though, this version of a standard finger print reader that they perfected on the home button is still working great.
Then there are 3 colors for the new SE: Red, White and black, they all have black fronts and bezels. You remember those days we had to hack together two phones to get a red phone with a black front, now even the white ones got a black font and the black bezel is a nice little update.
Naturally I went for the product red, because of the side note, the materials in the box still say products red proceed goes towards aids relief, but on apple site it’s says” covid relief , so that’s a good cause”
But really the size design overall the part here on this older phone that frustrated me was the display first of all, it doesn’t double tap to wake, I don’t realize how much I did that on phones that don’t have home bottons, and second it just doesn’t get as bright as today planes an outdoor visibility took a bit of a hit and it wasn’t that bad with the resolution and pixel density. And the 60Hz Refresh rate didn’t bother me as much because let’s not forget this is a $400 phone and I’ve gotten used to screens that have gone brighter since 2027, so no one we know coming form this review from iPhone SE we know it’s old body, new chip and new camera.
But what we want to know from the review from actually using it is: How good is the performance? How good is the battery life? And how good is the camera.
Well for performance, this may come as a shocker not the A13 and IOD Ram fly through the IOD of a 7-20EP display. Yeah I know, super breaking news performance is fine, basically apple didn’t have to push the A13 in here but I’m glad they did, because the performance overhead here, is insane and I mentioned this in the impressions, that this phone is going to have a longest battery life of any $400 phone that I’ve seen, and the battery performance is great.
Now to battery life, it has also being good, it has a really good standby time as mos5 iPhone do and the efficiency again with the smallest not very bright 720p screen.
But it’s also a tiny battery, I think its less than 2,000Mah because the phone is so small and thin, so it’s not the battery life champ that the 10R and the 11 might be, but I had no problems getting through the day with the phone plus wireless charging.
And then that single camera round the back, so apple won’t tell us it’s the sane camera as the 8 kr the 11 or a completely new systems, but it’s a single camera system and it’s a pretty good one, photos as you can tell, if you give it enough light it’s right up there with the best.
Mines the fringing on close-ups subjects and some other photos because the sensor is still so and but when you get into less favorable lightening things get a little greeny, and when you get to dark places, there is no night mood at all.
I actually thought they were going to pull off night mode with the AB chip her but it was not either what I’m looking at this camera as overall way average for this price, selfie are also pretty good, but I can’t tell if it’s the same selfie camera as iPhone 8. But I can’t really say.
Now even it comes to video 4k 30 video from the camera, is the best on, anyplace at this price, east and hand down and that’s important because people take a lot of videos of pets, kids or events because people, pets or events, so this is great, you don’t need to 8k video or any fancy feature or mode, you just need Rock solid stable good focus and good details and that’s about it about the iPhone SE.
Absolutely it’s really smoke formula, taste old body as put new internal in it, and sell it for cheap but I think this strategy coming from apple is actually more interesting than the show itself, at first glance it night seen kind of lazy cause they don’t redesign anything about this phone at all.
Maybe, just a throw up the bezels or just do something that will make it look a little more modern than the iPhone 8, but then you realize exactly why the phone is so cheap, is because they’ve streamlined the manufacturing of these part for so long and over the years that they can turn out this phone for a very long price and redesign any little part of it would involve new research , new tooling, new manufacturing process and that would have being extra cost on top, so they’ve make this phone cheap.
But I also think apple may just be the only company that can pull off a budget phone, like this, a phone that just needs the fundamentals and absolutely does nothing else extra.
The speaker,is sold but not amazing camera, solid pretty good but no zoom, camera is great but no high refreshers rate, battery is solid but not super fast charging. Like this phone checks all the basic necessity selling pints fie a plane in this price range and the selling point is it’s an iPhone and for there they typically need some standout features, something to give you a reason to buy it over the other budget phone, whether it’s the budget phone with a high refresh rate poke x2 or the budget plane with the stylist we just saw that from Motorola, or the highest phone with an amazing camera, pixel and those phone typically have sacrificed in other areas but this is a budget phone on iPhone.
And for many people that’s enough and I have no problem recommending this phone to those people my only attention would be to pay attention to storage.
It’s $50 extra to go from 64GB to 128GB I recommend if you can shred an extra 100 to do that but other than that, iPhone SE small edition is a great by and of course, since 99% of people put a case on their phone anyway this is one of the phones you can out on a case on and it doesn’t make it huge in your pocket.
As far the value, to it hand such a long life ahead of it as for performance overhead and software updates apple, essentially just delivered one of the best value phones of the year in a long time, so that’s what I like about the iPhone SE phone, the distinguishing factor to take away from this phone is that they made it in a way to replicate the iPhone 8 And then they gave it a little upgrade by adding the iPhone 11 A13 bionic, I personally love the phone because it’s sort of portable to look at but it has a great software inside, so this is really great coming from iPhone. I really hope they keep making products like these.
